What it is and what it’s for.
It is the file or connection that sends your catalogue (title, price, stock, image) to Google Merchant Center. With it you can appear in Google Shopping’s free listings and advertise with Shopping campaigns.
The data you need to look after.
| Data | What it must meet |
|---|---|
| Identifier | Unique and stable for each product. |
| Title | Clear: brand, product type and key attributes. No promotions or filler words. |
| Description | Real and useful, with no promotional text. |
| Link | Leads to the right product page, which loads properly. |
| Image | Of the product, sharp, with no watermarks or text. |
| Price and currency | The same as on your website. |
| Availability | The same as the real stock. |
| Brand and GTIN | Provide the brand and the code (EAN or UPC) where they exist. |
Exact requirements vary by country and category: always check Google’s current specification.
The errors that cause the most disapprovals.
- Price or availability that differs between the feed and the website.
- Images with text or watermarks.
- Missing GTIN codes for products that do have them.
- Titles with promotions or in capital letters.
- Landing pages that return an error.
- Shipping and returns information not set up.
How to connect it depending on your platform.
- Shopify: the official Google and YouTube app syncs the catalogue.
- WooCommerce: the Google Listings and Ads plugin.
- PrestaShop: feed modules.
- Custom: an XML or CSV file generated and updated on a schedule.
Always check the current version and requirements of each tool.
Feed, SEO and AI.
The consistency between feed, website and product schema (same price, same names, same attributes) is a good reliability signal. We can’t promise that ChatGPT or Gemini will use your feed, but clean data is a reasonable requirement for any visibility in shopping. We cover it in GEO for Shopify and ChatGPT shopping.
A monthly routine.
- Check the Merchant Center diagnostics.
- Fix the disapproved products.
- Cross-check prices and stock against the website.
- Review the new products.
- Measure what the channel contributes in sales.
Frequently asked questions

They are complementary channels. The feed gives you more control over how your catalogue reaches Google.
Is appearing in Shopping free?
Free listings, yes. Shopping ads are paid per click.
Can I guarantee my feed will show up in ChatGPT?
No. Nobody can guarantee that today; what you can do is keep your data complete and consistent.
