How to measure your store’s visibility in ChatGPT and other AI engines.
AI has no fixed positions, so you measure how often your brand appears. This is the method we use, step by step.

Why measuring in AI is different.
On Google you have positions: you know whether you are number 3 or number 11. In an AI there is no fixed list: the same question can give different answers depending on the moment, the model and the user. That is why you don’t measure a position but a frequency of appearance.
A simple 5-step method.
1. Choose 20 queries
Mix discovery searches (“best X for Y”), comparisons, buying questions and queries that include your brand.
2. Test them several times
Repeat each query on different days and in different assistants (ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI), using non-personalised sessions.
3. Record what matters
Whether they mention you, whether they link to you, what they say about you, which competitors appear and which sources they cite.
4. Calculate your mention rate
The percentage of answers in which your brand appears out of the total tests, by topic and by assistant.
5. Compare every month
What matters is the monthly trend and which actions caused it, not an isolated screenshot.
What to look at besides whether they name you.
- Which sources the AI uses to talk about your category: those are the websites where you want to appear.
- Whether what it says about your brand is true, current and consistent.
- Which competitors always appear and why.
- Whether visits reach your website from AI assistants (some analytics tools already identify them).
What not to do.
You shouldn’t draw conclusions from a single test, compare loose screenshots or boast about a one-off appearance. And if someone offers you a “ChatGPT ranking” report with an exact number, ask how many times they repeated the test. We do it every month as part of the GEO service and in the audit we show you the starting point.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a ranking position in ChatGPT?
Not like on Google. Answers change, so what you measure is how many times your brand appears across a set of queries.
How often should you measure?
Every month is a good pace to see the trend without obsessing over daily variation.
Can I measure it myself?
Yes, with a spreadsheet and discipline. If you would rather we do it, it is included in the audit and in the monthly plans.
